Ashlee Adebayo

2017 graduate, Ashlee Adebayo, is now Lead Sport Scientist for U18 footballers at Northampton Town Football Club Academy. And it all kicked-off with an internship.

Ashlee opted to study BSc (Hons) Sport and Exercise Science as part of his eight-year plan, benefitting from our more practical, hands-on approach to higher level education. “I thought going to uni involved sitting down for a lecture, have someone talk at you, you make some notes and then go home with the slides and that would be it, but the lectures at Northampton were seriously different. I still find it funny that everything I learned during my degree is directly applicable to what I'm doing for my day job."

Having undertaken voluntary work with the University during his first two years, an internship at Northampton Town Football Club soon followed. Here, Ashlee applied the skills and scientific knowledge he developed during his degree and the experience became a part-time job after graduation and finally a full-time position.

Today, Ashlee is responsible for making sure the team perform at their best possible level, not only physically and psychologically, but also outside of games. His day-to-day activities at the Academy range from observations and advice that aid the players’ performance and nutrition, to designing their warm-ups and gym routines – all tailored toward making the team work better as one.
