Our Students Union

The Students’ Union is a registered charity completely independent from the University. Led by students, and backed by volunteers and staff, they ensure your time here is the best it can possibly be.

All students automatically become members of the Students’ Union when they enrol and it’s absolutely free. As a member you're entitled to all of their services and opportunities, including sports, societies, volunteering, advice and representation – plus superb entertainment.

Just a few minutes’ walk from campus, The Platform is the Students' Union's town centre venue - housing a nightclub, café bar and the student recruitment agency. It's also home to a large conference and training space.

We were the first Students’ Union to offer both free sports and societies. The removal of membership fees has seen participation rocket, and the number of fun and varied activities has soared. And if you can’t find the society you’re looking for, you can start your own!

Freshers' Fortnight is a two-week period at the beginning of the academic year, dedicated to welcoming all new and returning students. You'll be able to get involved in some or our amazing events, including Union Day and Freshfest, which has previously featured artists such as Tinie Tempah, Gorgon City and Example.
