Special Educational Needs And Inclusion BA (Hons)

The programme is academically rigorous and designed to give a broad and in-depth critical understanding of the theoretical perspectives of Special Education Needs and Inclusion and relate these to current practices in a range of contexts. The course considers new agendas involving multidisciplinary approaches to children’s, young people’s and adult services, to explore how barriers to inclusion, and ‘disabled’ identities, are often constructed - and might therefore be de-constructed - to support person-centred policy and practice.

You will have:

  • opportunities for a diversity of work based learning in a wide range of settings, with an employability strand running through all three years
  • opportunities for international visits and study of SEN and Inclusion in other countries and contexts
  • supported opportunities to explore use of ICT with individuals with SEND, with a specialist option module in year three

Three years full-time. Part-time between four to six years. Four years full-time with Foundation Year.

A typical offer is BCC at A Level, DMM at BTEC or 112 UCAS points. Applicants are expected to demonstrate commitment to inclusive practices; DBS clearance is also required. In addition to standard entry requirements, applicants are normally expected to hold English and Mathematics equivalent to a GCSE grade C.

Foundation Study Framework entry requirements: Admission to the foundation programme is usually DEE at A Level, MPP at BTEC or 64 UCAS points. However, we would also like to hear from you if you have professional or industry experience instead, a range of other qualifications or self-developed subject knowledge that relates to the programme you wish to study.
