Primary Education (3-7) QTS BA (Hons)

This programme will develop you into a highly committed, creative and reflective teacher with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). You will be trained to teach children within the Early Years Foundation Stage and Key Stage One (3-7). On successful completion, you will have achieved a BA (Hons) Degree and be recommended for Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).

The programme will develop your skills, knowledge and understanding such that you can demonstrate the professional standards for teaching required by the Department for Education and exceed the minimum expectations. We are strongly committed to ensuring you gain a ‘Good’ degree (First or 2.1) and are graded as a ‘Good’ teacher who will be able to make a significant difference to the lives of all children. You will have a trained mentor in each Placement and a Personal Academic Tutor at the University to support your professional development.

The Faculty of Education and Humanities received an Ofsted Grade ‘Good’ in November 2014. “This reflects the strongly cohesive training programmes between the University and school based learning. Individual students are very well supported during their training and into their teaching posts. Trainees are well prepared to teach the early years or national curriculum and prepare their pupils for life in modern Britain. The high level of employment demonstrates the value placed on the trainees in the Partnership of over 300 diverse schools/settings.”

There are opportunities to engage with an international experience. Year Two students may visit Germany as part of our exchange programme and Year Three students have the opportunity to apply to participate in a summer school in Hong Kong.
