Interior Design BA (Hons)

This programme promotes creative practice that can be applied to the design of commercial, domestic and public living spaces. Studio projects are informed by historical and contemporary design, current trends, social contexts and the relationships of other art and design areas to the programme.

Industry and business focused projects, working with contemporary technologies and the development of visual language skills will enable you to acquire the knowledge and confidence to design for a range of applications.

Interior Design at the University of Northampton is a vibrant and creative discipline. Many opportunities for its expertise are needed within Northamptonshire due to a private and public building expansion plan.

This course concentrates on the aspects of design technology that can be applied to the design of commercial, domestic and public living spaces. Practical 3D projects are linked to the theoretical aspects of the course. Historical and contemporary design styles and trends along with emergent technologies are studied and incorporated into project work. Throughout the course, you will be encouraged to make use of computer technology and we have an excellent range of facilities and resources available to use.

Materials, Exhibitions, Event and Visits: Materials for workshops and for master classes, entry to competitions associated with your programme of study, and those visits that are necessary for your course are all made available at no additional charge. It is recommended that you budget approximately £200 per academic year. You may choose to purchase less or more materials, but this average has been garnered from successful current students and recent graduates. Please note that this is not compulsory and will depend upon the projects you select to undertake.

The cost of optional trips, visits and off-campus exhibitions do attract extra costs not covered by the course fees: Graduate exhibitions are heavily subsidised, but we recommend for your Graduate Exhibition you allow approximately £200 for items such as printing, travel publicity, accommodation and subsistence. Please note that these costs will vary year on year.

For Graduates in programmes within the Subject Area of Architecture and 3D Design the Graduate Summer Exhibition costs, apart from specialist exhibition media, specific to your final major design projects (variable, pending your selected project) will be covered by the Subject Area.
