Accounting and Finance BSc (Hons)

The accountant has become a key player in the provision of management information to enable successful decision-making, planning and control. Accounting is more than just a computational skill and we intend to develop your ability to analyse and to evaluate real life situations and effectively communicate your views and opinions. You will consider practical techniques involved in accounting and finance, and develop skills to critically analyse the theory behind these techniques. You are encouraged to undertake a year-long placement in between stages two and three of study. The students that choose to take up a placement year find it an invaluable experience that helps them to apply their learning in their final year and prepare them for their career. There is a lot of support in finding a placement, which can be in the UK or overseas. The programme also offers significant exemptions from the main professional accountancy bodies, namely the ACCA, ICAEW and CIMA.

Features: Industry representatives and visiting speakers from a variety of businesses attend the University regularly. You will be invited and encouraged to attend these useful events and engage in the debates.

Career opportunities: Accounting and finance specialists have a central role in all types of organisations; public and private sector, within industry and commerce, both in the UK and abroad.
