History (Joint Honours) BA/BSc (Hons)

The course offers innovative and research-driven topics on British, European, American and African history, covering all periods from the 15th Century through to the 20th Century. You will be actively engaged with the programme through optional field trips (not included in course fees) to historical sites and a Student History Society that organises talks and social events. Work placements are available with local partners in the history, heritage and archive sectors. Popular joint honours combinations with History include English and Education Studies.

Practising historians teach on the programme, all of whom are enthusiastic about their work and publish regularly as experts in their fields.

Careers for historians are those open to arts and humanities graduates generally, such as the heritage sector, public employment, social work, teaching, law and business. An increasing number who include History in their degrees progress to postgraduate study and research.
