Fashion (Leather For Fashion) BA (Hons)

This course aims to equip graduates with a specialist skill set relevant to the leather garments area of the fashion industries. You will have access to a wide range of unique facilities in order to develop your specialist knowledge, including learning more about the properties of leather and applying them to garment design and manufacture. You will also benefit from the University’s strong links with the industry, which supports live design projects. The course offers a stimulating working environment where you will be encouraged to develop your own individual aesthetic signature, explore materials and develop exciting conceptual pieces in leather and suede. Emphasis is placed on technical finesse, balanced by creative exploration and material investigation.

You will start the course in a student cohort comprised of fashion, textiles for fashion and leather for fashion and then select your chosen pathway at the conclusion of term one. In term two you will continue to specialise in Leather for Fashion, learning more about the construction and development of leather garments. In year one you will study a specialist module at the International Centre for Leather Technology (ICLT) in Northampton town centre's cultural quarter. Technical skills are supported by a portfolio of conceptual design work developed throughout the programme. The final year is dedicated to specialist projects with the focus on Leather for Fashion, developing a final collection utilising leather and/or suede. You will have the opportunity to show your work on the catwalk at Graduate Fashion Week, in London via a selection process.
