Ngoni supports Zendaya’s Paris Fashion Week stance on women of colour.

A University of Northampton fashion graduate has praised celebrity Zendaya for using only women of colour and plus-size models for her Tommy Hilfiger collection catwalk show at Paris Fashion Week.

Ngoni Chikwenegere, who graduated in 2015 and now runs her own successful label We Are Kin, praised Zendaya’s stand, in an interview with BBC Newsbeat.

In the interview, Ngoni said: “It was amazing to see so many women across age groups and shades walking down that runway – it just felt really good for representation. You don’t always see yourself represented on the catwalk.”

She added: “As someone who grew up and didn’t see herself represented, it’s something I’m really trying to do with my own label.

“…it was really good to have black women, but also plus-sized black women, in a show and it didn’t feel tokenistic.”
